Literature Text

A gigantic green troll was walking towards the end of the rec hall. Mandy gasped at Miss Ginny. Miss Ginny began flipping over tables, chairs, lifted up some students, and started throwing everything. They were all freaking out. Some were fainting, some where running around the rec hall in a panic, and some were trying to fight back. That's when Mandy realized that there were a lot of witches and wizards here, too.

Then, the door swung open with a bang. "MISS GINNY!!!! I HEREBY DECLARE THAT YOU COME TO MY OFFICE IMMEDIATELY!!!!!" An older women, who wore a long black cloak and had long silver hair and blue eyes, yelled to Miss Ginny.

Miss Ginny followed the old women out of the rec hall and the old women yelled back to the people in the rec hall, "Clean this mess up immediately!"

Then, all of the students started to clean up. It was like she was controlling them.

"Who was that?" Mandy asked, still in shock of what just happened.

"Oh, just the headmaster. She's a witch. Her profession is commanding people. She's the worst!" Amanda complained.

Mandy caught Izzy rolling her eyes at Amanda and Izzy said to her, "Only because you cause trouble all the time, Amanda."

Amanda smirked and giggled a bit. "Oh, Izzy. You know me too well." and she winked at her. Izzy winked back.

Carson was talking to Destery and Jared across the table from Mandy. They were all laughing so loud at what Carson said and Mandy couldn't help but let an amused grin out. Mandy was starting to feel like she belonged at Winny.

For the rest of the lunch, Mandy was trying to listen to everyone talking her ear off. She just nodded for most of the time. Honestly, Mandy had other things on her mind. She thought about how Carson was such a good guy, even if he is a fallen angel. She also thought about how her and Jared's instant connection. She thought it was kinda odd, but she felt something in that moment. It was like they were the only two in the whole wide world. Mandy didn't even gotten the chance to really talk to him yet!

The bell rang and then she realized that she had no idea what class she was going to. She checked her schedule and found that her next class was Speech. "What's your next class, Mandy?" Kahlie asked her curiously.

"Speech." Mandy answered, with a slight smile. Mandy was on the Speech and Debate team at her old high school.

"Oh, Jared has that! Jared, come here!" Kahlie said and waved him over. Jared was about to walk out of the rec hall, but walked toward them.

Their eye's met again and that weird feeling came across Mandy once again. Jared looked down at the floor and stopped beside Mandy. Mandy realized that Jared was super tall. Like 6'3 tall.  "Hey. What do you two want?" Jared asked them, sounding like he didn't care where he was.

"Well that was kinda rude..." Mandy thought and frowned.

"Mandy just told me that she had Speech next! Mind walking her down there for me?" Kahlie asked him, very nicely.

"All right, come on, newbie. Follow me." Jared said, so Mandy did.

For a while, they were silent. Then, Mandy decided to make a conversation with Jared.

"Soo.... How long have you been at Winny?" Mandy asked him, shyly.

Jared scoffed and answered, "Forever. My parent's kinda drug me into it when I entered 6th grade. It was "The decision of the kingdom", they said. Honestly, I was fine with my private tutor, Michael, teaching me in Rhaytrem. They thought it would be better to see how humans were. They also love the school and they figured that I might make more friends like me here. Honestly, they were right. I've made a lot of friends here. Even if some of them aren't normal." He laughed easily after he explained it all to her.

Mandy thought about what she was gonna say. "So you said that your world is called "Rhaytrem"? And I caught what you said about the behavior of humans. Um... Does that mean you're not human?" She asked him, so curious about his background.

"Yep, The Kingdom of Rhaytrem. A lot of different people live there. I guess humans would call them their "mythical" creatures. Outside of the main city, it's mostly sandy, but there is a lot of water in one city called Sealithum. That's where lochness monsters, sirens, and mermaids live. It's quite creepy. But I love my kingdom. And yes, I'm what you call a Huldrekall. In similar words, I'm a shapeshifter and Huldrekall's usually live underground. But it's ok in the human world. " Jared explained, with a smile.

"Oh.  Huldrekall. Hm, never heard of it. But that's really cool." Mandy said and returned the smile.

"Thanks." Jared said, with a grin. They finally made it to the Speech room, so Jared opened the door for her.

"No, thank you." Mandy replied to him, greatfully and marched into into the room, happy as can be. She really liked talking to Jared. He was truly nice.

"Hi, I'm Mandy James. I'm the new girl." Mandy said to the teacher and laughed slightly.

The teacher had blonde hair, blue eyes, and glasses. The teacher looked up at her and said hello to her. "I'm Miss Jeanne. Please take a seat beside Jared, ok? I'll let you introduce yourself to the class once the bell rings, all right?" And she smiled at her. Mandy nodded and replied. She found the seat next to Jared. Then, the bell rang.

"Everyone, We have a new girl in our school today." Miss Jeanne said and nodded for Mandy to come to the front.

"Um hi, I'm Mandy. I'm from Chicago, Illinois. My favorite color is purple and I don't know what my super power is yet. So yeah. I hope you guys can be my friend." She said and smiled at the class. Most of them smiled back. Mandy walked back to her seat.

"All right, everyone! We are going to read from Shakespeare's amazing work, "A Midsummer Night's Dream." Miss Jeanne exclaimed and Mandy smiled. This was probably one of Mandy's favorite Shakespeare's plays.

"Mandy, you will be Hermia." Miss Jeanne said and Mandy was overjoyed. She loved the character and thought she could play her well.

Mandy did a great job reading her lines and Miss Jeanne was impressed. Once the class was over, Miss Jeanne asked Mandy to talk to her. Jared told her that he'd wait for her outside.

"Mandy, how in the world did you learn to read the part that well?" Miss Jeanne asked her, curiously.

Mandy blushed with embarrassment and admitted, "I really love Shakespeare. He's my favorite."

"Oh, that's lovely! I'm so glad young people have such an interest in Shakespeare!" Miss Jeanne gushed and dismissed her. "I am truly impressed with you, Mandy! Keep it up!" She encouraged and Mandy yelled, "Thanks!" While she walked out of the room.

"I love Speech!" Mandy said with excitement to Jared.

"Maybe that's your superpower. Talking Shakespearean." Jared joked.

"Ha! Yeah right! Hopefully I find out soon!" Mandy joked.

They both laughed down the hallway.

"Mandy! Jared! Wait up!" They heard a voice yell behind them. They turned around.

It was Allison, the time traveler. She smiled at them. "Hey." She said and asked Mandy, "Hey, what's your next class?"

"Oh, um..." Mandy said, while checking her schedule, "It says something like "Intro to Specials" I didn't sign up for anything like that." Mandy looked at her schedule confused.

"Oh, that's the class that all the recent new people have to take for a semester! Courtney probably didn't tell you about that, but I'm the teacher aid, so I can lead you to it!" Allison said and took her arm in hers. "See you Jared! Have fun in Etiquette class!" Then, they skipped down the hallway.

"So Allison. How did you figure out that you were a time traveler?" Mandy asked.

"Oh, um... It's kinda a funny story." Allison said and started to explain.
